Salerno’s La Pizzeria & Gelato in Little Italy

Just in time for the hollidays, Bill and Kelley Salerno celebrate the opening of their full menu La Pizzeria & Gelato at Murray Hill and Cornell Roads in Little Italy. In this latest venture, Bill and Kelley spent three and one-half months converting an art studio into a full-service pizzeria that also offers 10 flavors of gelato.

In the pizza business for 20 years, Bill aligns himself with the Salerno Group eateries, a family enterprise of papa Ricardo (Rick), mama Maria, brother Fabio and his wife Nicole. The family restaurants include Little Italy’s Gusto, Lago in the Tremont neighborhood and Grotto at Shaker Square. Fabio also has an interest in the Liquid Night Club on W. 6th.

The Salerno’s will be working with a long-time special pizza recipe of Kelley ‘s nonna, Giselle Tavernini. The recipe, a solid favorite of customers in Portage (near Johnstown in western Pennsylvania), will be cooked in a conveyor belt oven that bakes the dough and the toppings into a crispy, crusty original red pizza in eight minutes. Specialty pizzas are also part of the full and diversified menu which includes family-recipe pasta dishes, calzones, fresh baked sub-sandwiches, oven baked chicken wings, appetizers and salads – all available for take-out or pizzeria seating.

Along side the food entrees is a cooler displaying the various flavors of Gelato made by Valerio’s LaGelateria of Cleveland Heights. La Gelateria is one of the few licensed makers in northeast Ohio producing gelato from equipment – valued at $200,000 – imported from Florence, Italy.

A marketer extraordinaire, Salerno has several grand opening promotions planned in weeks ahead. Events include a two-hour food sampling Saturday, sidewalk giveaways and a chance to win a free large pizza once a week for an entire year.

Salerno’s La Pizzeria & Gelato, 2188 Murray Hill Road at the corner of Cornell and Murray Hill Roads, is open seven days a week. Hours are Monday through Thursday 10am to 10pm; Friday and Saturday 10am – Midnight and Sunday Noon to 10pm. For additional information, call 216-229-9050.
